Acharya Life Ephemeris Ayanamsa 24.21° Sol — WesVedChi

Three traditions,
one birthdate

Western, Vedic and Chinese astrology, running on the same date at the same time. They do not agree. That is the interesting part.

The same day, read three ways

One date, three systems, three different answers. Two of them cannot both be describing the same sun. Somebody here is measuring from the wrong place, and it takes the rest of this page to work out who.

Cycle

Not a zodiac of degrees at all. A twelve-year cycle counted from a new moon in late winter.

Why they disagree

The sky moved.
One system followed it.

The Earth wobbles on its axis once every 25,772 years. Western astrology kept its zodiac pinned to the equinox. Vedic astrology kept its pinned to the stars. Every century since, the two have drifted a little further apart.

Lahiri ayanamsa, today

0.00°

The angle between the two zodiacs. Roughly four fifths of one sign.

Consequence

Four out of five people are a different sign in the Vedic system than the one they grew up calling theirs.

Neither system is wrong. They are answering different questions and measuring from different places.

What each one is actually for

Reference

Western

The tropical zodiac of twelve Sun signs, measured from the spring equinox. It is a reading of character and disposition: how someone meets a room, what they reach for first, where their attention goes. It answers who.

Vedic

The sidereal system of the rashis, measured against the fixed stars. Its strength is timing rather than temperament: periods that open and close, when to act and when to wait. It answers when.

Chinese

Twelve animals on a lunisolar count, paired with five elements on a sixty-year wheel. It reads in cycles rather than positions, which is why it is the one people use for compatibility. It answers with whom.

Resolve

Give it your date

Three rings, three systems, one birthdate. They rotate to your placement in each. The sky above rewinds to the day.

Date only. Birth time refines the Vedic moon, not the sun.

Sidereal positions use the Lahiri ayanamsa. Sun sign only; a moon rashi needs a birth time and place.
